I would like to introduce you all to my friend Mary. I met Mary while working with a food packing and delivery ministry here in Florence. In helping deliver food to this beautiful spirit of a lady, we found out how dire her living conditions were. I have traveled to the lowest income areas of Haiti and Zambia and I tell you truly, Mary's living conditions were the worst I've ever encountered. And this is here in my town, in America, not two blocks away from "normal" American life. The Lord stirred my spirit to honor this widow and try and do something. Life is not about us, but about others. God is overjoyed when we make a difference in the lives of others. When we do this, it ultimately bring us joy, as well.
It is in this spirit, that we are seeking to make a difference in Mary Freyer’s life. Mary is a 76 year-old widow, who lives at 525 Jefferson Street in Florence in a home that was left to her by her mother. This is the home of her lifetime. Unfortunately time and trial have taken their toll on the property and it is not safe to live in, especially for an older, single woman. Her meager means have not allowed her to repair or upkeep the property and now it is beyond repair and needs to be demolished and replaced.
A group of concerned citizens from all over Florence, including members of our City Council are spearheading an effort to raise funds to remove the old structure, provide temporary housing for Mary and a new building project to establish a smaller, cost-efficient and safer dwelling for Mary. We are seeking to restore her property, her quality of life and her dignity with this project.
Being shepherded by Helping Florence Flourish, we are asking that you please consider helping in this endeavor with your prayers, as well as your donations of time, resources and finances as we seek to bring blessing and restoration to this widow in our midst and “change the narrative” of this property and area of our community.
