Flood Meadows Lenten St Entrance Improvements

Amery Hill Residents' Association wants to complete the work needed to improve the river banks above and below the Lenten Street Bridge in Alton's Flood Meadows.
This will complete the process of making the area an attractive gateway to the Flood Meadows. In addition, there is a health & safety issue on the downstream bank where some of the reinforcing structure for the new bank has been exposed with the winter rainfall and which now poses a hazard to children and dogs that access the River Wey at this point.
The money raised will be used to make safe and backfill the newly reinstated bank downstream of Lenten Street Bridge, and transform the current bare top surface into an attractive grassed area with sympathetic, riverside planting.
It will also be used to disguise the ugly foundations upstream of Lenten Street Bridge and protect the 'berms' from damage by dogs. These berms have been introduced by Surrey Wildlife to improve the flow of the river. Iris will also be planted here to provide an injection of colour and interest in an area which is currently unsightly and attracts litter.
The entrance was refurbished in 2019/20 as part of the Pocket Parks Initiative, funded by a grant from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and Alton Town Council, so this will provide the funds to finish everything off. The work needs to be carried out in the autumn so that the plants can establish during the winter months, ready to be enjoyed by everyone who visits the Flood Meadows.
Any money left over after the Lenten Street entrance has been completed will be given to Alton Town Council and ringfenced for use specifically for improvements for Flood Meadows, e.g. extending the wildflower meadow, repairs to riverside footpaths.
