Satellite ship tracking

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Mr Miserable and I track ships, specifically RoRo's transporting new Tesla's from San Francisco to Zeebrugge and Southampton.
After ordering my Tesla Model 3, I was struck by how little information Tesla provided on how my order was progressing and so I did some digging to find out where my new car was.  I posted that information on the Tesla Motors Club forum.   As it happens it turned out that I was not alone, other buyers found it interesting too and although I intended to stop reporting when I took delivery in Aug 19, I had become hooked on the amazing logistics involved in the delivery of my car and in particular the shipping element.
I started to provide daily updates on the ships, their positions and destinations.
In order to maintain the quality of the information I provide there is a requirement to keep track of vessels when they are out of range of land based AIS receivers requiring a subscription to a satellite sourced data service which costs in the region of £1200pa.
This is financed to a degree by followers of the shipping thread switching their electricity supplier to Octopus Energy using my referral link for which I receive £50.   Clearly I need to encourage 24 people every year to do this which may not be realistic.  Over the last 3 months I have yet to break even despite the generous assistance of a benevolent individual who passed on my referral code to 2 people instead of using his own code.
I don't want to charge for the information I provide because I may not be 100% correct all the time and importantly I often rely on 'people in the know' to feed me snippets to point me in the right direction or bring me back on track!  I'm not sure they would want to assist a profit making enterprise to the same degree.
There is no aspiration to make this a profit making concern - if an excess is accrued it will be reinvested in other tools to provide better quality information eg satellite imagery and to make it more entertaining to read.
I also actively support the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) the UK charity that provides 444 lifeboats, manned by brave volunteers,  around the UK and Ireland to assist mariners in distress.
I thank you for supporting me.
