Empower Future Heroes: IN Sheriff's Youth Camp

Hi, my name is Jim Roell and I'm raising money to build a cabin for Explorer's Camp — an Indiana Sheriffs' Youth Ranch (ISYR) pilot program launching this summer.

The mission of Explorers' Camp is to deliver character-building experiences and mentorship that allow youth to achieve their full potential in both life and work.

I have donated many of the building materials and appliances that will be used in the cabin, and now we need $50,000 to complete the construction. The remaining $5,000 will be put into a trust fund to cover maintenance over the coming years.

The cabin will be named and memorialized for Robert L Roell Sr. and Taleb Ibn Fazle.

Why are we building a cabin?

The cabin will host teenagers who are interested in public safety careers. They will stay at the cabin while attending free, weeklong academies run by the Indiana Fire and EMS, Sheriff and Police leadership at the ISYR's nonprofit 62-acre training retreat in Clay County.

Why does this matter for Indiana?

Research shows that Indiana will need nearly 14,000 law enforcement recruits from among Indiana's current K - 12 student population. All indications show our state will face a staggering need for motivated qualified applicants among urban, suburban, rural, and volunteer departments.

ISYR is working with Sheriffs, Police and Fire Chiefs to develop and host fascinating hands-on career camps to maintain teens' interest in public service during teenagers' crucial decision-making years about education, friends, and work habits.
