24 Hour Cycle Challenge

We are doing a virtual sponsored bike ride to raise money for Devon & Cornwall Refugee Support (DCRS). We think that this is a great local charity which we hope to raise lots of money for and beat our target of £2000!

These last few years have put an exceptional amount of pressure on the living standards of refugees as countries slash funding and more and more people are forced to flee from their homes. Many asylum seekers in the UK have to wait years for a decision on their future to be made, leaving them in a state of limbo where they are unable to fully integrate in the community partly due to a lack of legal rights and possible prejudice.

As a Sixth Form, we decided that we could play a role in helping to support people going through this often traumatic experience by building links with a local charity: Devon & Cornwall Refugee Support (DCRS). Being in a position of privilege compared to refugees, it seems only right that we try our best to help these individuals. Hearing a presentation given by DCRS, we were inspired by their amazing work assisting refugees by providing activities and education to promote a sense of belonging, as well as protecting their rights.

As a part of our plans to raise money for this charity, we have decided to undertake a 24 hour continuous bike ride, covering the distance from Tunisia to our school: over 1,500 miles! Whilst we cannot imagine the journey which tens of thousands of refugees have to undertake each year, we thought that this would be an exciting yet difficult challenge and we really hope that you can help to support us!
